Veterans and their families visit Krekhiv monastery and ascend Zhovkva tower

Participants in the rehabilitation project for servicemen and their families spent a day immersed in a profound spiritual and cultural experience. Their program included a pilgrimage to Krekhiv Monastery, joint Moleben prayers, a walk to a sacred spring, and a tour of Zhovkva. Some even climbed the city hall tower for panoramic views.

“Visiting Krekhiv Monastery, shared prayer, ascending to the spring—these aren’t just events; they’re moments of encountering God, oneself, and silence. It’s in that stillness that healing emerges,” explained Father Vasyl Kinakh, who accompanied the group.

Father Vasyl emphasized the spiritual component as vital for holistic recovery. “When we unite body, soul, and spirit in the rehabilitation of veterans, the process becomes complete. Spiritual recovery is not secondary, but foundational,” he stated.

He further noted that these experiences foster personal discovery: “It’s crucial that the veterans felt this, shared their experiences, and some even took a step towards the faith they might have once lost.” The day ended in a warm, fraternal atmosphere with an evening bonfire and guitar songs.

“Being part of this project, offering guidance, is a great joy and blessing,” the priest concluded.

As a reminder, 16 military families from across Ukraine are currently in the Lviv region, undergoing rehabilitation and spiritual renewal. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Mudra Sprava and the UGCC Patriarchal Pilgrimage Center, supported by the German foundation Kindermissionswerk. During this time, families are focusing on self-discovery and adapting their relationships to their new circumstances.
