Ukrainian Community in Hannover donates several more vehicles for medical needs

The UGCC parish in Germany has donated more vehicles to Ukraine. They were blessed on Bright Monday, May 6, 2024, in the courtyard of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv. To raise funds for the vehicles as quickly as possible, an ambulance destroyed in an explosion in Kharkiv was brought to Hannover so that the authorities could see the consequences of Russia’s toughness. The delegation was accompanied by Maria Maksymtsiv, the priest’s wife, William Dubas, an active parishioner, and Dirk Hahn, the chief physician of one of the hospitals in Hannover.

“As you can see, this is not only an ambulance, but also a means of transport for people with disabilities who cannot move on their own. Unfortunately, in Ukraine, there is no appropriate transport and no sufficient assistance for people with disabilities to get from their homes to hospitals or for medical examinations. So, we are very pleased that we have succeeded in organising this campaign on a large scale,” said Maria Maksymtsiv.

The vehicles were blessed after the Divine Liturgy on the second day of Easter by Fr Lyubomyr Yavorskyy, Patriarchal Econome of the UGCC.

“Today we can see an example of one small parish — forgive me for saying so — from Hannover with Fr Roman Maksymtsiv and his wife Maria and the whole community of believers. Their parish has been supporting Ukrainians since the beginning of the war. So, this time, on this sad second anniversary, they organised this collection and delivered four vehicles — ambulances and evacuation vehicles — which are so much needed today in our parishes and Caritas centres in Beryslav, Kherson and Mykolaiv. This will now allow us to better serve these poor and needy people who have been affected by the war. Therefore, we sincerely thank all our benefactors and donors who are making Ukraine stronger and more resilient today,” the Patriarchal Econome commented.

The total value of the assistance provided has already reached 45 thousand euros.
