For the second year in a row, at the initiative of the Patriarchal Foundation Mudra Sprava, 200 hot meals have been distributed weekly in Irpin, Kyiv region, at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UGCC. On January 9, 2024, a regular meeting was held with those in need and victims of the Russian war against Ukraine.

The UGCC parish in Irpin continues to distribute hot meals to those most affected by the war

“As long as the weather remains cold in Ukraine, and in Irpin in particular, this ministry is quite relevant. We are glad that we can warm everyone with hot meals and care for all those who find themselves in difficulties,” said Fr Myroslav Latynnyk, pastor of the parish community and initiator of the charity ministry.

According to the priest, every Tuesday at 13 o’clock in the courtyard of the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the UGCC, residents of the Irpin community, namely internally displaced persons from the war zone, people with disabilities, the poor and those in difficult life circumstances, can receive a lunch.

Volunteers of the parish center of Caritas Irpin together with a priest distribute hot meals. The distribution is not only about food, but also about joint prayer and spiritual support, which can be obtained in a conversation with a priest. Volunteers also transport the meals to those who are unable to get to the distribution site.

Since December 4, 2022, the Charity Kitchen has been providing humanitarian aid in the form of hot meals in the Kyiv region. A team of 6 chefs prepares 200 hot meals three to five times a week, which are then transported and distributed to UGCC parishes in the Kyiv region. These parishes include: Irpin, Brovary, Vynohradar neighbourhood, Bucha, Hostomel, Moshchun, Boryspil, and others. The project to prepare hot meals was supported by the Philadelphia Archeparchy of the Ukrainian Catholic Church. The kitchen at the Patriarchal Curia was established with the assistance of the Italian Bishops’ Conference.

As of today, the Charity Kitchen has managed to prepare and feed 40,072 people with hot meals in Kyiv region.
