The Patriarchal Economate of the UGCC Presented the Main Topic of the 103 rd Session of the Hierarchical Synod of the UGCC in Ukraine

The main topic of the Synod was “Social Security of the Clergy,” which was prepared by the Patriarchal Economate of the UGCC on the instructions of His Beatitude Sviatoslav. This was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.

The main report was delivered by Fr. Lyubomyr Yavorskyy, Patriarchal Economo of the UGCC. In his presentation, he reviewed the synodal decisions regarding the social security of the clergy and the status of their implementation, as well as outlined the current state of the Church’s activities in this field.

An important component of preparing the topic was a large-scale sociological study conducted by the Patriarchal Economate of the UGCC in cooperation with the research agency “FAMA.” The results of the study were presented by the CEO of the agency, Ms. Mariana Malachivska-Danchak. The study concerned the financial situation and social security of UGCC priests, allowing for a deeper understanding of the clergy’s current challenges, needs, and expectations.

Commenting on the results of the work on the main topic of the Synod, Fr. Lyubomyr Yavorskyy noted that this session was a “special experience of responsibility, dialogue, and joint search for solutions for the future of our Church.”

“This issue has long required deep reflection, honest conversation, and concrete steps. It was important for us not only to see numbers, but above all to hear the real voice of priests, to understand their challenges, needs, and expectations,” emphasized the Patriarchal Economo of the UGCC.

According to Fr. Lyubomyr Yavorskyy, members of the Hierarchical Synod demonstrated openness to further cooperation and a readiness to seek effective mechanisms for improving the social security of the clergy. Following the discussion of the presented materials, the synodal fathers adopted a series of decisions aimed at positively impacting the social security status of priests and their level of financial and economic literacy.

The next stage of the work will be a broader presentation of the sociological study’s results across eparchies, exarchates, and among the clergy and laity of the UGCC.

“We must honestly realize our current state, determine our direction, and together build a strong, responsible, and socially sensitive Church,” emphasized Fr. Lyubomyr Yavorskyy.

The Patriarchal Economo also invited everyone who cares to engage in joint work, mutual support, and co-responsibility to improve the situation and create worthy conditions for the clergy’s ministry and the Church’s development.

The next, 104th, session of the Hierarchical Synod of the UGCC in Ukraine is planned to be held in the fourth quarter of 2026.
