December 7, 2025
On December 3, 2025, the team of the Patriarchal Foundation Mudra Sprava, led by Fr. Oleh Panchyniak, arrived in Sumy with humanitarian aid. At the local branch of the Caritas Sumy Charitable Foundation, the assistance was received by Fr. Oleksandr Diadia, priest of the parish community of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary into the Temple.

Father Oleksandr Diadia came directly from his hospital bed to express words of gratitude to everyone involved. First and foremost, he thanked Bishop Jonáš Maxim, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Prešov Greek Catholic Church in Slovakia, and “the faithful of the Slovak Greek Catholic Church for their concern and support during this difficult time.” Gratitude was also extended to Fr. Lyubomyr Yavorskyy, Patriarchal Economos of the UGCC, “for his constant remembrance of our city and the assistance provided.”
“All the aid received will be distributed among internally displaced persons (IDPs) living in the communities of the Sumy region. Our staff will form individual kits, which will be handed over to the people most in need,” the priest emphasized.
According to Fr. Oleksandr, he is currently “the only priest in the Sumy region, while the number of those in need continues to grow.”
“At Caritas Sumy, we continue to dream and work towards opening a social center with a canteen, where we can provide even more support to people affected by the war. We believe that through joint efforts and partner support, this dream will become a reality. Together, we are creating a space of mercy for those who were forced to leave their homes,” Father Oleksandr shared regarding his plans.
