The Bishops of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC were presented with the current activities of Mudra Sprava

On March 4–8, 2024, the 7th (78th) session of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC was held in Washington, DC (USA).

The Bishops of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC were presented with the current activities of Mudra Sprava

One of the reports during the working sessions was a presentation of the current activities of the Patriarchal Foundation Mudra Sprava by Fr Lyubomyr Yavorskyy, Patriarchal Econom of the UGCC. The bishops of the Permanent Synod of the UGCC are members of the Supervisory Board of the Foundation.

In his speech, Fr Lyubomyr stressed that today the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church is becoming a source of hope for many Ukrainians. “Having survived the period of ‘liquidation’, persecution, and catacombs in the last century, we as a Church have developed a kind of DNA of survival. This allows us today, with God’s help and His care, under the leadership of our Head, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, to support people, no matter what difficulties or suffering they may be in. This is our primary task in this difficult period of the Russian war against Ukraine — to give people hope through the proclamation of the Good News,” he said.

He pointed out that the Church is making efforts to attract value-oriented people through education, offers and various programmes as a value-oriented structure. “We strive to become a magnetic core in communities in order to restore and revive life on our damaged land, to build our native home together with them,” the priest said.

“One of the instruments of this ministry of the Church is the Patriarchal Foundation Mudra Sprava. At the beginning of our ministry, which coincided with the beginning of the full-scale invasion, we launched a number of emergency initiatives. These included evacuation and resettlement of IDPs, food and hygiene packages, Good Samaritan resilience centres and provision of medical facilities with everything they needed. Then came a wave of more sustainable projects: spiritual and rehabilitation trips for IDPs, the UGCC Logistics Centre, the Charity Kitchen, the Free Children rehabilitation camps, and modular houses for IDP families. Finally, today we continue to transform and develop. Today we are talking about transformational, strategic projects of the level of the Righteous Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky. First, these are educational projects for the comprehensive restoration of communities — ‘Healing Communities’ and ‘Action in Hope’. It is also the intensification of our UGCC Counselling Centre for parish communities seeking to develop social service and entrepreneurship. We cannot ignore the establishment of the Wound Healing Centres and the launch of a network of Psychological Counselling Centres, which provides both individual and group services to improve the mental health of Ukrainians,” Fr Lyubomyr Yavorsky said about the current state of the Foundation’s activities.

At the end, the members of the Permanent Synod had the opportunity to get acquainted with the financial statements and testimonies of people to whom the Patriarchal Foundation Mudra Sprava gives help and support.
