Participants of Rehabilitation Camp for Military Families Made “Fried” Ice Cream with Veteran-Owned Business
July 24, 2025
As part of a rehabilitation camp for military families in the Lviv region, a culinary masterclass on creating “fried” ice cream took place. The event was held with the participation of Kaval’e Lviv, a veteran-owned business that not only treated the participants but also involved them in the dessert-making process.
The rehabilitation camp is organized by the Mudra Sprava Patriarchal Foundation together with the Patriarchal Pilgrimage Center with the support of the German charitable foundation “Kindermissionswerk.”
Veterans, their wives, and children actively participated in preparing the dessert. They experimented with different ice cream flavours, combining them with fruits like blueberries, bananas, and kiwi. The children were the first to be treated, followed by everyone else, turning a simple activity into a moment of joy, care, and community.
Psychological Effect: Cooking as Therapy
Such events have a deep psychological and social significance. According to the organizers, these interactive activities create a safe environment for emotional recovery, fostering trust and family unity. They provide a sense of normal life despite the traumatic experience of war.
“When a family creates something delicious together, laughs, and treats each other, it’s a simple but very effective way to heal. This is especially true for those who have gone through the pain of loss or long separation,” noted the camp’s psychologists.
Involving a veteran-owned business in such events also has significant social importance. It serves not only as an example of support from veterans for other military families but also as a crucial step toward strengthening trust within the community.
