July 22, 2026
On July 19, the final day of the third module of the mini-MBA “Action in Hope” educational program in Odesa, participants worked on the topic of financial management. The session was led by financial expert Oleh Martyn.

During the training, attendees examined financial management not merely as a record-keeping system, but primarily as one of the key elements of organizational management. The lecturer emphasized that effective financial management involves planning, execution, control, and analysis of financial processes, helping achieve strategic goals and ensure the long-term sustainability of the organization.
Special attention was paid to the principles of financial management, including transparency, accountability, consistency, financial control, compliance with accounting standards, and audit readiness. According to the lecturer, these components build trust among donors, partners, and beneficiaries, as well as form the foundation for effective resource management.
Participants were also introduced to the three core components of financial management: financial accounting, tax accounting, and managerial accounting. Particular emphasis was placed on the role of managerial accounting as a tool for analysing operations, budget planning, monitoring resource allocation, and making management decisions.
The practical part of the lecture focused on modern financial management tools. The attendees reviewed the principles of budgeting, financial analysis, cash flow management, financial planning and forecasting, investment planning, risk management, and selecting funding sources for projects. Additionally, they analysed the relationship between the three key financial statements—the balance sheet, the income statement (profit and loss statement), and the cash flow statement—which together provide a holistic view of an organization’s financial position.
Summarizing the session, Oleh Martyn stressed that quality financial management is not just a donor requirement or an accounting function, but a prerequisite for the sustainable development of an organization, its ability to use resources efficiently, plan for the future, and confidently implement social and entrepreneurial initiatives.
The mini-MBA “Action in Hope” educational and awareness program is implemented by the Patriarchal Foundation Mudra Sprava. The program aims to help representatives of the civic sector, business, local self-government, and active communities master modern management tools to develop their projects and communities.
