Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation, the city of Kamianske has been actively hosting internally displaced persons from the frontline and constantly shelled areas. As of April 8, 2022, almost 12,000 IDPs from the areas of active hostilities had temporarily moved to the city. By September 1, 2022, this number had increased to 35,000. According to Mykola Lukashuk, head of the regional City Council, the number of IDPs in the Dnipropetrovs’k region continues to grow and has already exceeded 414,000. Many of them are children.

Evacuation train routes pass through Kamianske. The town on the Dnipro River, along with Dnipro and Kryvyi Rih, has become an important humanitarian, medical and logistical centre for thousands of Ukrainians forced to flee their homes.

“This assistance is very important in times of war, as many people are below the poverty line, especially those who have suffered and continue to suffer from the war,” local volunteers wrote in their post.

The city is currently completing the construction of the Transfiguration of the Lord Church, which has been home to an active parish community for 30 years.

The food packages were distributed to people in need not only in Kamianske, but also to residents of Zhovti Vody, Pyatykhatky and Verkhniodniprovsk. The recipients of the humanitarian aid are single elderly people, evacuees from the war zone, families with children and people in difficult life circumstances.

“We are very grateful to the Mudra Sprava Foundation for such timely and much-needed help!” the volunteers said.

The Mudra Sprava Charitable Foundation was founded by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Patriarch of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church. It has many different areas of activity, including the establishment of ‘Points of Invincibility’, training programmes, rehabilitation programmes and providing people in need with hot meals, hygiene kits and food packages.

We would also like to remind that the food packages are prepared and delivered thanks to the financial support of Ukrainians and people of goodwill from all over the world. For example, these food packages were provided by the faithful and people of the Melbourne Eparchy of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania.

“May the Lord generously bless all the benefactors who help the victims of the war in Ukraine,” the parishioners concluded.
