Education as a path to development: Consulting Center holds workshop on creating and developing family centers
April 9, 2025
On April 7, the UGCC Consulting Center team attended the second offline workshop by the Patriarchal Commission of the UGCC for Family and Laity Affairs. The workshop, themed “Church and family Initiatives: balancing mission and resources,” gathered clergy and lay workers from the Stryi and Sambir-Drohobych eparchies.
Commenting on the event, Maryna Danyliv, Director of the UGCC Consulting Center, recalled the words of the righteous Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, which guide the team’s work: “A nation that does not care about education will have no future.” She added, “That is precisely why educational activity is an integral part of the Consulting Centre’s work.”
According to Maryna Danyliv, during this meeting, the centre’s representatives had the opportunity to share their experience on how to combine pastoral mission with financial and organizational challenges. During the discussion, workshop participants focused on two important blocks: financial and legal. “Our goal is to make each family center sustainable, financially transparent, and open to various forms of ministry. Special attention was paid to practical application: participants worked on creating a business plan for a family center that provides not only spiritual support but also consultations from psychologists, family specialists, and so on,” Maryna explained, sharing the participants’ expectations.
The lecturer noted that preparing such workshops by the Consulting Center involves not just theory, but primarily an analysis of real cases. “We communicate with already established centers, studying their strengths and weaknesses to form practical, real-world solutions,” she said.
“Such educational events are already a good tradition of our cooperation with the UGCC commissions. The Consulting Center has proven itself as a reliable partner that not only understands the church context but also explains complex matters simply. We accompany communities not only within the framework of seminars but also in their ongoing daily work,” Maryna Danyliv concluded.
