Comprehensive assistance provided for war victims at the Invincibility Point in Kharkiv
April 20, 2023
At the end of January, an invincibility center was set up at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Kharkiv with the blessing of Exarch of Kharkiv Vasyl Tuchapets. It was founded with the efforts of the Patriarchal Foundation Wise Cause and the financial support of the Apostolic Exarchate for Ukrainians of the Byzantine Rite in Germany and Scandinavia.
From the very first days, this building became a place of meeting and service for those most affected by the war of the Russian Federation in Ukraine.
In cold weather, adults and children come here to treat themselves to tea and sweets. It’s a place to rest, warm up, or hide from the rain. At the same time, it has become a place for heartfelt conversations and sharing experiences. It is often here that children and young people learn about Christian truths in catechetical lessons.
For many Kharkiv residents, especially those living in Northern Saltivka, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker has become a place of help and support. Every week, the parish community and volunteers organize the distribution of various humanitarian aid here: from food packages to hygiene kits, stationery, and clothing. The invincibility point often becomes a place of storage and aid distribution.
The volunteers and parishioners also continue to deliver aid to those who cannot come to the distribution place. They provide food packages from the Patriarchal Foundation “Mudra Sprava” and other assistance to the elderly, people with disabilities, and the abandoned.
