A Meeting with Bears: Rehabilitating Military Families Through Compassion and Recovery
June 21, 2025
The rehabilitation camp for military families, organized by the Mudra Sprava Patriarchal Foundation and the Patriarchal Pilgrimage Center, is continuing its work, offering unique approaches to psychological recovery. A recent day at the camp was dedicated to emotional release and deep work on family relationships.
One of the key activities was a visit to a bear sanctuary. This experience was especially touching for the families, as the service members often saw themselves in these animals. “Many of our soldiers, when they look at the bears, see a part of their own story,” the organizers shared. “Just like the bears had to endure captivity and limitations, our defenders are now going through a difficult path of rehabilitation and recovery to a full life.” This analogy helped the camp participants better understand their own experiences and the path to healing.
In addition to emotional relief, a central aspect of the program remains the intensive work on restoring family relationships. Through specially designed psychological and recreational activities, the camp helps military families find harmony, mutual understanding, and support in each other. This is critically important for their future return to a peaceful life and for building a strong foundation for the future.
The organizers expressed their sincere gratitude to the benefactors from the “Die Sternsinger” fund for their trust and for making this opportunity possible, emphasizing that such initiatives would be impossible without their support.
The Mudra Sprava camp’s activities continue to play an important role in supporting the families of Ukrainian defenders, providing them with the necessary help on their path to physical and psychological recovery.
The second session of the rehabilitation camp for military families includes 15 families from different parts of Ukraine. All of them are striving to restore their family relationships and peaceful coexistence.
